Emerson: Lost with Losses – Houston

The importance of accurate and reliable field instrumentation to the production accounting and data reconciliation systems should not be underestimated.  The role of field instrument accuracy and its’ impact on data quality KPI’s will be examined in this presentation. This will be followed by a discussion of the primary measurement devices that are commonly used in mass balance calculations and associated sources of error and uncertainty. The advantages and disadvantages of various flow measurement technologies in the context of improving mass and energy balances will also be discussed.

Julie Valentine first joined Emerson in 1993 and worked as the Refining Industry Marketing Manager for Micro Motion for 14 years, until 2007.  She rejoined the Emerson Flow Group in 2015, again in a refining industry role for the Emerson Flow Group, now responsible for all of Emerson’s flow technologies.  Julie has authored numerous technical papers on various applications of flow technology in the refining industry, and is a co-inventor in two U.S. patents for Micro Motion. Julie is a member of several working committees for the instrumentation and control group of API’s Refining and Equipment Standards Program.  Julie is a graduate of the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado with a B.S. degree in Chemical and Petroleum Refining Engineering. Before joining Emerson, she worked for UOP, primarily in the technical services group, where she was involved in the commissioning, start-up and troubleshooting of UOP process units around the world.
